I praise the Lord that no matter what is going on in our lives, community, country or the world; no one can disrupt the plans of our God. Isaiah 14:24, 27 is clear; “The LORD of Hosts has sworn: As I have purposed, so it will be; as I have planned it, so it will happen. The LORD of Hosts Himself has planned it; therefore, who can stand in its way? It is His hand that is outstretched, so who can turn it back?” (HCSB).
I am thankful and blessed to be in relationship with a God who contends for us. How great is that love, that not only did Jesus die for us, but on an ongoing basis Yahweh Tsebaoth, the LORD of Hosts, fights for and defends us. Psalm 35: 1-2, is a graphic telling of this truth; “Oppose my opponents, LORD; fight those who fight me. Take your shields large and small – and come to my aid.” Our God is an awesome God. We all have times when we feel discouraged and it is especially comforting in those moments to know that our Heavenly Father loves us so much that He, The Creator of the universe, will come to our aid.
I am grateful that God hears our prayers for loved ones who need His rescue. Maybe like me you have loved ones who are battling cancer, experiencing surgical complications, family discord and the list goes on. It is a relief to be able to call on my Father, and ask Him to release the captive. This petitioning may continue each time we forget who is in control, and begin to find ourselves in fear and or unbelief. But just the act of asking and believing Him and His Word, speaking aloud God’s truth is enough to bring us to peace as we abandon the strong urge to do God’s job.
I love to talk about the Lord and His exploits in my life and everywhere He shows up. We are designed to worship Him. Talking about His love for us, and the abundant life He gives is a natural outcome which has reward, see Malachi 3:16-17:
Then those who revered the LORD spoke with one another. The LORD took note and listened, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who revered the LORD and thought on His name. They shall be mine, says the LORD of Hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them (NRSV). Doesn’t this just make you want to fall in love with Him all over again? We cannot out-love, or out-give our God. He not only is the standard for love and generosity, He is the very embodiment of these attributes!
I am encouraged and rejoice in the fact that all we will ever need in this life has already been made possible because of the cross of Christ. We are promised that “no weapon formed against us shall prosper, and that all those who rise up against us shall fall,” so it seems that God has taken special care to let us, His beloved children, know that we truly have nothing to fear. What is in your life right now that has the appearance of destruction and ruin? My thought is that this situation is not looking as intimidating as it did a few moments ago. We praise the One who is greater than he that is in the world, for what our God has purposed, no one, no thing, can thwart what He has set in motion. As those who love and are loved by Almighty God, our role is to trust Him and to believe that what He says is true and reject everything else. We do not bury our heads in the sand, but as the Psalmist notes, we will look to the hills where our help comes from.
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
praise Him in the heights.
2 Praise Him, all His angels;
praise Him, all His hosts.
3 Praise Him, sun and moon;
praise Him, all you shining stars.
4 Praise Him, highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.
5 Let them praise the name of Yahweh,
for He commanded, and they were created.
6 He set them in position forever and ever;
He gave an order that will never pass away.
7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
all sea monsters and ocean depths,
8 lightning[a] and hail, snow and cloud,
powerful wind that executes His command,
9 mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle,
creatures that crawl and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all judges of the earth,
12 young men as well as young women,
old and young together.
13 Let them praise the name of Yahweh,
for His name alone is exalted.
His majesty covers heaven and earth.
14 He has raised up a horn for His people,
resulting in praise to all His godly ones,
to the Israelites, the people close to Him.
Hallelujah! -Psalm 148 (BibleGateway.com).
